Mr. John N. Hilton, M.A.Sc., P.Eng.
President

Mr. John Hilton, President of DCS, is a chemical engineer with over 30 years of experience in industry and environmental consulting. His areas of expertise include industrial wastewater treatment, sewer-use bylaw compliance investigations, and assessment of treatment options and treatment process design for in situ and ex situ groundwater remediation. He is experienced in pilot testing and/or full-scale design of a wide range of treatment technologies, including oil/water separation, dissolved metal precipitation and clarification, ultrafiltration, filtration, advanced oxidation processes, biological processes, granular activated carbon adsorption, and air stripping (including air emission treatment technology).

Recent projects where Mr. Hilton has been heavily involved include:

  • the design and construction of a long term biopile soil treatment facility at the Lester B. Pearson International Airport in Toronto to remediate hydrocarbon-contaminated soils;

  • design of an 8,000 litres/day raised adsorption trench sewage disposal system for a nursing home;

  • assessment of PCB-contaminated soils at an industrial plant near Orillia, Ontario, followed by preparation of remediation and demolition contract documents and management of the remediation contract;

  • investigation of a site in Etobicoke, Ontario, contaminated with tetrachloroethylene and the design and implementation of remediation of the affected area; and

  • design, installation and operation of a multi-phase extraction (MPE) groundwater recovery and treatment system to mitigate impacts from chlorinated solvents at a manufacturing plant near Parry Sound, Ontario.

  • design and installation of a pilot test system to remediate chlorinated solvent degradation products using in-situ remediation techniques at the former Molson brewery in downtown Toronto.
